Poker Equity Calculator

Compare Texas Hold'em hands or ranges for 2–6 players, from preflop to river. Range text copied from the free GTOZero solver app pastes straight in, and the guide below shows what an equity number can't tell you.

Every result is labeled exact or simulated; all calculations run in your browser.

How to use this poker odds calculator

Set up the players first, then the board. You can compare specific hands, a hand against a range, or ranges against each other.

What is equity in poker?

Poker equity is the portion of the pot a hand or range collects on average when the rest of the board is dealt with no further bets or folds. A win takes the whole pot and a tie takes an equal split. The number changes with the board and with the hands or ranges the other players hold.

To calculate equity, consider every valid set of hands and every way the board can finish. Give the winner the pot, split ties equally among the tied players, and average those shares, accounting for any range weights.

Preflop, A♠A♥ has 82.64% equity against K♠K♥, which has 17.36%. That 82.64% is higher than the aces' 82.36% outright wins because the 0.54% of boards that tie each add half a pot.

Poker range equity: hand vs range and range vs range

Use hand vs range when you know your cards but can only estimate an opponent's holdings. A range spells out that uncertainty instead of pretending to know their exact two cards. Set both players to Range to compare the full sets of hands each could hold.

Range text accepts QQ+, AKs and AQo+, as well as intervals such as TT-22, A5s-A2s and KQo-JTo. AK includes both suited and offsuit hands; AhKh specifies A♥K♥. Separate entries with commas, spaces or line breaks.

Weights describe how often a hand belongs in the range. KJs:0.5 gives each suited king-jack combo half the weight of a fully included combo; KJs:50 means the same thing. Where entries overlap, the later entry sets the weight.

Card removal happens automatically: range combos containing a board card or a card in another player's fixed hand are excluded. Before you calculate, the range's combo count already reflects its weights and shows what share of all starting hands it covers. After calculating, the result shows how many distinct combos remain after card removal.

Text from the GTOZero app's range inputs pastes directly into this calculator. The preflop charts' Copy range text button also works, including weights such as K8s:0.75. Those charts are compiled from public material; the solver did not produce them.

For a range vs range study, the GTOZero home page lists the big-blind calling range and button opening range under "Starter ranges you can paste". The single-raised-pot Study Spots are built on exactly these two ranges; use them on A♥7♦2♣ to follow the equity-to-strategy example below.

Is the equity calculation exact or simulated?

The calculator counts every valid runout and combination of holdings when the workload—runouts multiplied by range pairings—is at most 20,000,000. Above that threshold, it deals 200,000 random hands and estimates equity from those results. Each result comes with a note naming the method and how many hand evaluations or random deals it used.

Simulated results are labeled with an approximate margin of ±0.2 percentage points. If you run the same simulated matchup twice and the decimals move, that is sampling noise: a result around 45% is still about 45%. The margin is an estimate, not a guaranteed bound, so do not read meaning into tiny differences.

Equity is not strategy: what the solver adds

With the single-raised-pot Study Spot ranges on A♥7♦2♣, this calculator gives the big blind about 45% equity. Dry Ace-High Board, the first Study Spot, is built on those ranges and that board, with the big blind first to act. There the big blind checks 98.2% of the time; the two bet sizes, 1.8bb and 4.1bb, get 1.0% and 0.9%.

For the whole range, the All row reads 45.1% equity and 2.09bb EV across 464.0 combos, with EQR at 84.0%. EV is expected value. EQR (equity realization) is EV divided by equity × pot, so 84.0% says the big blind's EV comes to about 84% of the pot share its 45.1% equity alone would suggest. Acting first on every street, and a board whose ace favors the button's opening range, both feed into that figure.

The two 45% figures agree, yet nothing in that number says to check almost the whole range. Equity is an all-in snapshot: it assumes no more betting. Strategy determines what to do when betting continues, and EQR shows how the expected result compares with that snapshot.

Open Study Spots, choose Dry Ace-High Board and press ⚡ View results; one press brings up the result. To test a change, press Solve it yourself: the solver opens with the spot's ranges, board and bet sizes filled in, ready to edit. The solver app is free and runs in your browser with nothing to install; Study Spots also work on a phone.

FAQ

What is equity in poker?

Equity in poker is a hand's or range's percentage of the pot across every way the remaining board can come, assuming no one bets or folds again. Each win counts as the whole pot and each tie as an equal split, measured against the hands or ranges you enter.

How do you calculate poker equity?

To calculate poker equity, go through every valid combination of players' hands and remaining board cards, give each pot to the winner or split it on a tie, and average each player's share, weighting range combos as entered. An exact calculation counts all possibilities; a simulation estimates the same quantity from random deals.

AA vs KK odds: what is the exact equity?

Preflop, A♠A♥ has 82.64% equity against K♠K♥ at 17.36%, calculated exactly. Equity includes each hand's share of tied pots; other suit combinations differ slightly.

How accurate is this poker equity calculator?

The GTOZero equity calculator counts every valid outcome exactly when the number of runouts times range pairings is at most 20,000,000. Larger workloads use 200,000 random deals, labeled simulated with an estimated margin of about ±0.2 percentage points; that margin is not a guaranteed bound.

Does this calculator work for Omaha?

No. The GTOZero equity calculator supports Texas Hold'em only, not Omaha or short deck.

Can poker equity tell me whether to bet or check?
